Do Your Link Exchanging Right!

Author: Grayson Bell

How many times have you heard someone tell you that link popularity is very important? I have probably heard it more than I care to count. Well, the thing is that the statement is true. Link popularity is very important and is a big effort in your seo strategy. Your PR depends heavily on it and so does your ranking on search engines. Well you can do whatever you want to get links on your site, but you might want to listen up to find out what will help and what will hurt.

Link exchanging is a tedious process that involves finding websites then getting in contact with the webmaster to get your link on their site in exchange of their link on your site. Well this process is outdated and now there are so many ways to get links that it is not even funny. The best way is still to get your website on directories that will provide one way links. That means you dont have to reciprocate a link back to them. Directories will get your site targeted traffic and better rankings on the search engines as well.

Another good way is to join link exchange websites. These are sites that provide users a list of members' websites to link to. You have to power to choose which sites you link to and if you want to decline requests. This process is a little easier than the old way but you still have to worry about quality. Quality links are more important than quantity. Get the sites that are relevant to yours. Do not link just for the sake of linking, it will hurt you in the end.

The problem now a days with some exchange sites is that they entice people to join by saying they will link their site to many sites. Well this is true, but all the sites they are linking your site too are garbage. This will hurt you and the worst thing is that the company that linked your pages have taken your money and done you nothing. Most of these sites say that they will add code to your site. This is because they will create links pages on your site to shuffle their members links on. They do the same with your link on other members sites. This is a big problem because your link moves so many times that the search engines cant pick it up, which defeats the purpose of linking. Stay away from these sites!

So what I am trying to say is that keep your linking fair and clean. Do not get involved with websites that will hurt your site because you will then have to work more than before. A good way to control the sites linking to you is to add a place for people to add their website onto yours. You control who gets on and who doesnt so your links pages do not get cluttered with spam. Good luck out there and do your link exchanging right!
